How Does Botox Work?

How Botox Works

Botulinum toxin type A injections can be used to safely reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. The toxin is purified and marketed by different companies by the names of Onabotulinumtoxin A and Abobotulinumtoxin A. Botox treatment is one of the most common minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed.

As noted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, botulinum toxin can effectively help smooth:

  • crows feet
  • forehead furrows
  • frown lines
  • skin bands on the neck

A fine needle will inject into the facial muscles. A smooth, youthful and well rested appearance is the result. Contracting your facial muscles, will determine precise injection sites and a topical anesthesia may or may not be used. A typical procedure takes as little as ten minutes.

Most normal activities can be resumed hours after the procedure with minor redness or bruising. Results from a procedure can last 3 to 4 months after which you can receive subsequent injections to maintain a desired result.
